BillMail ID - The World's Bill Manager Launching this December

This December, we have an amazing gift for you. A revolutionary web application which is going to enter your daily life and make it easy and organized. The best thing is that it is completely Free !!

BillMail ID - A webapplication dedicated to managing your bills and payments online through a patent pending technology, is the brainchild of Mr.P.C.Hashir - The Managing Director of Peeci Group, Mangalore, Karnataka. Foradian is the technology partner and we loved developing this out-of-the-box concept, which has got all the ingredients to become the next great thing online.

PC Hashir, Managing Director - Peeci Group

P.C.Hashir is a young and dynamic successful businessman in Mangalore. We admire him for the status of a "Self Made VIP" through his hardwork and attitude. Foradian was in the process of developing an ERP solution for Hashir and his firm Peeci Group. One day he showed us an old piece of paper, in which he had jotted down the concept of Facebook 12years back and told us he has got more ideas, which can be developed as online softwares and will be used by millions of people around the world.

BillMail ID was such an idea, which Hashir was confident about launching as an online product. And when Foradian joined with Hashir, it was the perfect team to develop and launch a world-changing startup. We had many things in common. The aggressiveness, the never say die attitude and a never ending thirst to do new things. And most importantly a team of fun loving people who decided to show to the world that awesome web-applications can happen from India too.

What is BillMail ID ?
In BillMail ID each individual and business entities will get a unique ID which will be called as BillMail ID. This ID will be the hub of all their bills. All your bills like electricity bills, mobile bills, water bill etc.. will be available at a single location and you will be able to pay the bill through the dedicated bank A/C we are offering.

We are launching BillMail ID, because we used to send and receive thousands of bills every month but there was not a good solution to store all bills in a single place and manage it later. Even though internet and email made the life of people more organized and efficient all around the world in many sectors, we as well as our friends faced the same problems with bill management. Some of us used emails to send and receive bills but understood bills and emails are not meant to be kept together. Even if kept together, retrieving the bills and managing them at a later point of time is really difficult.

So we decided to create a new web application dedicated to sending, receiving, managing and paying bills in an easy way. And we wanted it to be simple, unique and powerful from the existing system.

blurred view of the Dashboard

What is the future ?
The concept of Bills is only one part of the web-application. It is going to evolve as an online payment gateway and a virtual bank online. Just like Paypal, you will be able to send and receive money through requests and receipts. Some of the well known names in Indian Banking sector are already in discussion with the top management of BillMail ID to make this happen as soon as possible.

How to Join ?
The launch is planned on December 13th 2010. We have created a teaser page at www.billmailid.com - where you can reserve your billmailid before the launch. Join the official facebook page at www.facebook.com/billmailid or follow us at twitter on www.twitter.com/billmailid to stay updated.

The Lions have joined with Tigers to create a new team. We enjoy hunting. Expecting your support and prayers.

Four Secrets you don't know about Foradian Logo

The foradian startup team was motivated by movies like Matrix Trilogy and 2001: A Space Odyssey which intelligently incorporated numerous references to philosohpical and religious ideas. So when the time came to decide about the logo of foradian, the team decided it to be as simple as possible and rich with inner meanings.

Foradian

Before explaining about the logo, those who don't know what the word "Foradian" means, here is the explanation. The name foradian is motivated from scientific unit of angular measurement "radian". Radian measures angles in two dimensional planes and Steradian measures angles in three dimensional space. A new word "FORADIAN" was coined to describe the experience on the next dimension. We chose our startup tagline as "Business in Next Dimension" meaning helping the offline business to shift to online through our internet engineering services. The team chose orange-red as the official color theme. It portrays the aggressiveness as well as the hacker attitude towards life and society. Orange-red is a bright vibrant color which symbolizes physical energy.

Logo

Foradian logo is simply an angle created by two straight lines with a common starting point and the shadow the angle on the surface beneath it. In the direct sense it portrays the concept of angle of the term "radian" and the number "4" created by the logo and its shadow. If you haven't noticed the number 4 in the logo, look carefully. It was not meant to be a secret. :)

Now to the actual secrets.

Secret 1: 36 degrees of the angle.

The angle created by the foradian logo is exactly 36 degrees or if we put it in correct units, it is π/5 radians. The number and the angle 36 has got many significance which you can read from here.

Secret 2: Golden ratio

The edges of the foradian logo triangle keeps golden ratio. The ratio of the longer side to the shorter side is always φ which is approximately 1.6180339887. Watch the following video to understand the importance of golden ratio in designs and nature.

Secret 3: 11:11 phenomenon

Just before starting foradian, when the cofounders were at different places all of them started noticing the 11:11 phenomenon, which might be pure coincidence. But we loved the concept and it became one of our motivation to make the logo.

To know more about the 11:11 phenomenon visit http://www.1111spiritguardians.com/

Secret 4: Hand of Pentagram

Foradian logo is actually the hand of a pentagram. The prominent part of the logo is from the inverted pentagram and the shadow from the normal pentagram. Pentagram has got a prominent role in most of the religious and philosophical views of the world.

Rupee Foradian Keyboard Layout - Type the Indian Rupee Symbol without changing your keyboard while sticking to Unicode Standard

Download the above zip file to get the Rupee Foradian Keyboard Layout and 4 new fonts with Unicode recommended code position for Indian Rupee Symbol.

Watch the youtube video below to get detailed information.

The Unicode Technical Committee has approved a code position for our new Indian Rupee Symbol. Which means we can start using our rupee symbol all around the world in computers, mobile phones and internet without deviating from Unicode standards. Very soon you will be able to type the symbol in your favorite internet applications like twitter, facebook and gmail.

The new code position was proposed by the world famous typographer Michael Everson. The new code position of rupee symbol will be implemented to the ISO standards and all new fonts will come with support for our rupee symbol. But there is a small problem. You wont be able to type the rupee symbol with your existing keyboard with ease. No more worries. We have a solution for you

We foradians who first helped you type the rupee symbol on your computers with our legendary Rupee Foradian font has now come up with a quick and easy solution which will make you type the rupee symbol with out changing the keyboard, while sticking to the Unicode standard. Here is how it can be done

  • Download the Rupee Keyboard zip file to your computer
  • Extract the contents of the zip file
  • First you have to install the new fonts
  • Double click the Rupee Installer.exe File and follow the instructions
  • This will install four new fonts to your computer with support for new rupee symbol in Unicode recommended code position
  • Then double click the Keyboard Install.exe file
  • This will install a new keyboard layout in your computer
  • To enable the keyboard layout selector right click on the task bar and select language bar from the toolbars menu
  • Now you can click on the small keyboard icon and enable the Rupee Foradian Keyboard Layout
  • Double check the keyboard layout is active
  • Now you can use the grave accent key on the keyboard to type the rupee symbol by selecting the Rupee Foradian Standard fonts
  • You can set Rupee Foradian Standard as the default font in browser and start using the rupee symbol in any applications like gmail, twitter or facebook.

If you can see only squares instead of rupee symbol, please check whether the font selected is "Rupee Foradian Standard" or a font with Indian Rupee symbol mapped to U+20B9 of Unicode. And if your friends can see squares for the rupee symbol you typed in your computer. Dont worry. The squares are actually our rupee symbol, just waiting for the ISO approval. :)

Linux

  • Download the Rupee Foradian Standard fonts
  • Type the following command in terminal window

xmodmap -e "keycode 49 = U20b9 grave"

Now you can use the grave accent key to get the Rupee Symbol.

RuPi Foradian - Download and start using 26 different glyphs for Indian Rupee Symbol

Are you tired of using the same Rupee Symbol style in all your print documents. Here is a cool new "pi font" from us, which has got 26 different glyph styles for the new Indian Rupee Symbol.

Download the above font and install it in your PC. Will work with Windows, Linux and Mac. After installation, select the font and use Capital letters A to Z to get 26 different glyph styles for Indian Rupee Symbol. If you have any doubt or suggestions, post as a comment.

What is a Pi Font ?

Fonts that have symbols and shapes in place of alphabetic characters. These fonts are also known as Dingbats. Click here to read the wikipedia article. These kind of fonts are popular due to the ease of input.

The opensource school management and e-learning software Fedena version 2.0 is released

We have a good news for you. The v2.0 of Fedena codenamed as "Magic" is released after one long year of non stop coding and optimizations. You will be also interested to know the fact that the entire source code is available to the public for free download.

Website - www.projectfedena.org

Don't know about Fedena ?! See the presentation below before reading further.

http://www.slideshare.net/unnikoroth/fedena-quick-facts

Project Fedena was started one and half years before, when Foradian decided to concentrate on developing a web2.0 software for management of schools and colleges. Fedena v1.0 was accepted by all the educational enthusiasts all around the world. So we decided to continue the project and this time we have come up with a lot of add ons and improvements, which makes Fedena superior than any other school management software or student information system in the world.

Fedena is developed in the beautiful framework of Ruby on Rails and the team follows an agile development process. Team Fedena consists of only 4 people at a time. And the team is lead by the CTO of Foradian Technologies - Arvind G S

Arvind G S - Project Director of Fedena

Project Fedena completed many milestones till now. Team Fedena was invited to take a presentation at RubyCon 2010 held at Bangalore, India and DebConf 2010 held at New York City, USA.

RubyConf 2010 - Bangalore, India (March 21, 2010)

Arvind gave a presentation on "Project Fedena and Why Ruby on Rails". See some photos from the event.

The first part of presentation was about the birth of fedena. And why the team chose Ruby on Rails for its development. Fedena team was not experienced in Ruby on Rails. Actually they had no experience on practical programming skills other than the textbook knowledge on C and C++ that they get from and Electronics and Communication degree. They are now experienced programmers in ROR and are actively involved in various opensource ROR projects.

The second part was about team's experience on ROR and the advantages and disadvantages we felt while coding and deploying. The third part of the talk is about why we are giving fedena as opensource to the community. The business model of opensource software.

You can enjoy the presentation below.

Fedena 2.0 - Magic

As the codename suggests, there is essentially some magic with Fedena 2.0. Following presentation gives some hints on the major changes and upgrades in the new release.

http://www.slideshare.net/arvindpotti/fedena-v20-magic

Significance of Project Fedena

Project Fedena is one of the largest opensource project "initiated" by a software company from India. It is not a fork of any of the existing opensource software. The Fedena is designed and coded from scratch with the aim to make it user friendly and efficient for anyone related with the process of education. The version 3.0 which is set to release in December 2010 will be containing e-learning modules, which will create another revolution in Learning Management Systems worldwide.

We released Fedena 2.0 to the world on India's Independence day and we are dedicating this web application to our beautiful and amazing motherland - India. Vande Mataram.

Rupakara - First font with Indian Rupee Symbol at Unicode agreed code position - Free Download

Rupakara is a new font created by Michael Everson to give support to the newly invented Indian Rupee Sign, which has been assigned to U+20B9 by Unicode.

You can download the font for free from http://www.evertype.com/fonts/rupakara/

We are thankful to Michael Everson not only for this font but also for his proposal to Unicode for assigning a code position to Indian Rupee symbol on emergency basis.

Michael Everson is the world's leading expert in the computer encoding of scripts. He is famous for his constant efforts to add a wide variety of scripts and characters to the Universal Character Set. His proposals have added thousands of characters to ISO/IEC and Unicode standards. He received the Unicode "Bulldog" award in 2000 for his technical contributions to the development and promotion of the Unicode Standard.

You can get more information from his website - click here and the Wikipedia page - click here
We can be proud that he designed a font for our rupee symbol and he is trying really hard to get the Rupee Symbolto the ISO standards as soon as possible. Let us give him all support in this struggle.

Interview with Michael Everson

What you think about India's new Rupee Sign?
I like it. I think that Udaya Kumar Dharmalingam should be commended for his unique design. It is instantly recognizable -- a strong, bold symbol.

Which symbol do you like the most, the Dollar Sign, the Euro Sign, or the Rupee Sign?
I can't say that I have any preference insofar as the shape of any of these symbols is concerned. Since I live in the eurozone, I like euros very much, and would like to have more of them!

You were one of several who submitted proposals for the Indian Rupee Symbol. And your proposal is the one which was selected. When we can expect an official announcement from Unicode?
Actually there were three proposals submitted to the Unicode Technical Committee. Mine was the first, because of two reasons. The first reason is that, I have proposed other currency signs for encoding before, and I knew how important it was that a stable code point was chosen. The second reason I submitted a proposal very quickly is that the UTC meeting was coming up and I did not know if the Government of India would prepare a proposal quickly. As it happens, they did, and the Department of Information Technology of the Ministry of Communications & IT put in a proposal as well. Another person also proposed the character, though he proposed it for encoding in the Devanagari script block, while I and the Government of India both proposed the Currency Symbols block. My proposal differed from the Government of India proposal in that I used a Times-based glyph for the symbol and proposed a specific code point. The Government of India proposal used the "official" glyph. In the end, their glyph and my code point were chosen. It was a good example of standardizers cooperating.

What is special about the code position U+20B9?
Nothing. It was the next available space in the Currency Symbols block.

The people of India are eager to use the symbol in gmail, facebook and twitter. Can we start using it?
Here is the whole story. "Officially" speaking, it takes time for a character to be encoded. In fact, the INDIAN RUPEE SIGN will not even be sent out for ballot until after the meeting of the ISO Working Group in October. But now that a code point has been chosen, nobody wants to change that. So even though the character is not "official", it makes sense for us to encourage the use of that code point and to avoid the use of other code points which were used in the very first Rupee Sign fonts (such as your own).

In order to use the new symbol you have to have a font (like Rupakara) installed that uses it and your application has to "let" you use the code point even though it is not formally defined. I know it works OK under the Mac OS. Some Windows programs are not very forgiving about unassigned code points.

There are millions of keyboards and thousands of PCs using unlicensed windows. How we can help these people type the new rupee symbol in their existing system so that a lot of e-waste can be avoided and some money can be saved?
Well, I don't know, really, since I use the Mac OS. I know that Microsoft makes a keyboard layout editor (Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator or MSKLC), and Tavultesoft makes a keyboard layout editor (Keyman). Also in the short term what was called the "Character Map" in Windows XP and Vista can be used. (I don't know what it is called in Windows 7.)

What is the meaning of "Rupakara"?
Rūpakāra or रूपकार is Sanskrit for "maker of images". I understand it is also the Hindi word for a "designer".

What is special in Rupakara for India?
Well, I made Rupakara first and foremost for support of the INDIAN RUPEE SIGN. But I decided it made sense to also include all the letters used by librarians and linguists and indologists for transliterating Indian languages (and Sinhala) into the Latin script. This includes the vowels with the macrons on them, the consonants with dots underneath, and so on.

Have you visited India?
I am sorry to say that I have never yet visited India. The nearest I have been is Kabul to the west and Yangon to the east.

Your message to young technical startups of India like Foradian Technologies?
Keep up the good work!

Your advice/message to budding font designers of India?
Make sure your fonts work under Windows, Linux, and the Mac OS.

We are amazed by your in depth knowledge in many Indian languages.
Although I studied Sanskrit (and a little Hindi) at University, I don't speak Indian languages... but I do know a lot about Indian scripts.

Especially we are amazed to see your script proposal for "Tulu". Foradian Technologies is situated in Tulunad and some of our directors are well versed with Tulu.
Really! I hope very much that your group can help to supply me with more information -- and books? -- about the Tulu script.

How you get time for all these?
It's what I do. It would be easier to do it -- and more -- if I were funded better, but I do what I can. Sometimes it's a struggle, though.

MacBook displaying a Javanese letter and sitting next to a mechanical Javanese typewriter

What is your motivation?
It's my dharma. I seem to have a real talent for script analysis and encoding -- so I do what I can to ensure that more and more writing systems and minority-language characters are encoded. You see, most of the scripts and characters that make the big corporations money have already been encoded. It's the smaller communities that need support. I try to do that.

What is the most challenging work you completed till date?
Some of the encoding projects I have worked on have been quite challenging. The N'Ko script of West Africa was difficult. Egyptian Hieroglyphs took a long time too.

What are you working on now, and what are your plans for the future?
I've been working on a number of very different projects. Some of them are encoding projects. I'm working on a major Coptic font soon to be released called Antinoou. Recently I released a font called Allatuq, which supports many characters in the style of a child's handwriting.

I'm also a publisher of books inspired by Lewis Carroll. I've published Alice's Adventures in Wonderland in seven languages and have been working on more. And I've published books in the Irish and Cornish languages, and have some been working on some dictionary projects as well. Most recently I've been looking into language support at the Wikimedia Foundation's projects. Perhaps there is some work to be done there.

Our future blog posts will contain information on how you can use Rupakara font in a very simple and easy method without changing your existing keyboard. Download the Rupakara font and start using the Rupee Symbol.

Unicode Technical Committee (UTC) accepted code position U+20B9 for the character INDIAN RUPEE SIGN

As per the official email we got from Michael Everson today afternoon, UTC accepted code position U+20B9 for the character of Indian Rupee Sign.

See the proposal submitted by Michael Everson to UTC on 19th July.

Quoting a part of Michael's email

The UTC meeting is all this week, and it won't be until next week probably before the Pipeline is updated. http://www.unicode.org/alloc/Pipeline.html

I phoned in to the meeting from Ireland. Everyone was clear about the importance of getting the character encoded quickly, and also of preventing the proliferation of fonts with the character in non-standard positions. And the code position was chosen at yesterday's meeting.

Michael Everson is the world's leading expert in the computer encoding of scripts. Wikipedia article - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Everson . Website - http://www.evertype.com/

We can be proud as it took less than a month for UTC to accept the Indian Rupee Sign. It is simply because everyone understood the importance of Rupee sign for our country. We never waited for UTC to accept the symbol to start using it. We started using it and UTC felt the emergency.

So whats next ?

We will be launching the new fonts with UTC approved code position. And will be posting tips and tricks on how to use it with existing keyboards and PCs. Wait for our next blog post.

Update1- 11.30am, July 18th 2010
Thankyou all for the positive comments. Will reply and clarify each and every doubts.

Please note that we can use the rupee symbol globally only after unicode approves it. With this launch we have proved that, if all of us work together, we don't have to wait for anyone else to approve the symbol to start using it. If we start using it others wil have to follow.

We know that font creation is not a rocketscience. Anyone with a good knowledge in computers can do it. There are many free tools available too. If a small company like Foradian can do like this, just think what the Indian Govt and Media working together can achieve to get the rupee symbol into all PCs and Keyboards. It is possible and can be done in days.
